About Me

I am a retired Truck Mechanic. I saved this 'Gem' from the scrap, because it would not start, due to a bad magneto. I have had it for about 20 years.

It belonged to a driver that I worked with, who inherited it from his father. He could not get it started, so I offered to help him with it. It had no spark, so I did the basic stuff, still no spark. He said that he was done with it and if I wanted it, I could have it, otherwise it was goiing to the scrap. So I loaded it up and brought it home. I had the magneto rebuilt and it started right up.

Machine Number -G25236

Engine Number - UCZ/Y 87672/5

I sold my Gem. Hated to let it go, but ran out of storage space and strength to move it around.
Wishing all of you the best tinkering.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply and for really helpful photos... We are away from home for a few days but on our return will have a good look in the places you suggest... Eventually, when restoration is complete, we will hopefully post our own photos and maybe even be able to help someone else as you have helped us! Best wishes, Jo and Richard Rudd

I think I am working on the same machine as you - would I be right in thinking it is also known as the series 3? I have two brass plates - one is stamped with the engine number but the one that should give the model and serial number is blank so I am struggling to date the machine... RSVP
